Keto Grocery List: An Aisle-by-Aisle Weekly Checklist

Keto Grocery List: An Aisle-by-Aisle Weekly Checklist

A keto grocery list is a weekly shopping checklist: whole proteins, low-carb vegetables, full-fat dairy, nuts and seeds, and cooking fats, grouped by aisle so you can shop in one pass. It is different from a keto food list, which is a reference of what fits and how many carbs each food has. Use the food list to learn your options. Use this checklist to fill the cart.

The quantities below are an example for one adult eating most meals at home for a week. They are not a requirement or a prescription. Scale them to your appetite and household, and if you want the list built from a weekly menu, start with the keto meal planner.

How to use this checklist

  1. Plan your meals first, even loosely.
  2. Check the fridge, freezer and pantry, and cross off what you already have.
  3. Shop the perimeter (produce, meat, dairy) first, then the center aisles for pantry items.
  4. Read labels on sauces, dressings, deli meats and flavored products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a keto food list and a keto grocery list?

A keto food list is a reference of which foods fit and how many carbs they have. A grocery list is a shopping checklist: what to put in the cart this week, how much, and in which aisle. Use the food list to learn options and the grocery list to shop.

How much food does one adult need for a week of keto?

It depends on appetite, body size and activity. The example quantities on this page are a starting point for one adult eating mostly at home. Track what is left at the end of the week and adjust the next list up or down.

How do I scale a keto grocery list for a family?

Multiply the example amounts by the number of adults sharing these meals, then adjust to each person's appetite. Pantry items such as oils, spices and condiments usually do not scale one-to-one, since one bottle lasts longer than a week.

Do I need special keto products?

No. Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, vegetables, nuts and oils cover most keto meals. Specialty bars, breads and sweeteners are optional and usually cost more per serving.
